IT’S CAUCUS TIME, MINNESOTA’S GRASS ROOTS TRADITION

On Tuesday, February 27, voters across Minnesota will be gathering with their neighbors for precinct caucuses. Caucuses are the first opportunity for area residents to have a say on issues and candidates. This is the place to elect precinct delegates and officers, formally voice opinions and meet your neighbors.

The Republican Caucus for Senate District 49 will take place at Central Middle School on 8025 School Road, Eden Prairie, 55344. Doors open at 5:30 pm, Rally starts at 6pm and caucuses will start at 7pm.

Senate District 49 encompasses all of Eden Prairie and the area of Minnetonka, south of Highway 7.  Attendees are encouraged to locate their precinct before attending the caucus.  For faster registration, please pre-register at 49mngop.com by February 25th.

Candidates for elected offices have been invited to speak and meet with voters at the 6pm rally.

Many leadership positions in Senate District 49 will be decided this November 5th.   Voters will elect members to the Eden Prairie School Board, Eden Prairie City Council, and Hennepin County Board.  Additionally, voters will elect members to the Minnesota House of Representatives, the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate, along with the president of the United States.  The Senate District 49 precinct caucus is your first step in this process.

“Why caucus? The precinct caucuses are the foundation of our senate district.” Ellen Cousins, SD49 GOP chair, said.  “At the caucus, you get a chance to meet like-minded neighbors, elect delegates and precinct officers and shape our party’s platform. The caucus is also the first step in getting candidates on the ballot that represent your views.”

Caucus information for all parties and precincts can be found on the Secretary of State’s website at sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting/how-elections-work/precinct-caucuses.

Minnesota now also has Primaries to officially determine presidential candidates for each party. Be sure to vote in the Presidential Primary by March 5th. Early and Absentee voting has already begun.  For information on how to vote in any area and party, go to sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting

Good government starts with each of us. Exercise your right to be heard and find out how to get more involved in your community by attending your local caucus on February 27th.
