CAE Lunch - Janus vs AFSCME

Janus_vs_AFXCME.JPG

Please join Center of the American Experiment on Monday, September 17that the Hilton Hotel for a lunch forum with Rebecca Friedrichs and Mark Janus as they discuss the impact of Janus v. AFSCME on government unions.

In a major victory for First Amendment rights, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Janus v. AFSCME that government employees cannot be required to pay union fees as a condition of working in public service, and that employers must obtain the affirmative consent of employees before deducting any fees or dues from their paycheck. This landmark case restores the First Amendment rights of free speech and freedom of association to more than five million public school teachers, first responders and other government employees in twenty-two states, including 285,000 government employees in Minnesota.

Rebecca Friedrichs is the author of the upcoming book, Standing Up to Goliath: Battling State and National Teachers’ Unions for the Heart and Soul of Our Kids and Country available in November 2018. Mark Janus was the plaintiff in Janus v. AFSCME and is now a senior fellow at the Illinois Policy Institute and Liberty Justice Center.
