The City of Bloomington will hold an open meeting on June 22 to ask for input into how “future sustainability challenges” should be addressed.  The meeting will take place at Jefferson High School, 4001 W. 102nd St., Bloomington, starting at 6 pm.  A brief presentation is first on the agenda. The City hopes that the majority of the time will be spent “collectively” identifying issues attendees believe are most pressing for the City to address.  The intent is to incorporate approaches to address these issues as part of Bloomington’s “Forward 2040” planning process.

In a letter to the editor published on June 16 in the Bloomington Sun Current, the author expounded on what she called the “many complex sustainability issues” facing Bloomington.  These include the need to “dramatically increase the rate of recycling, … provide organics recycling, conserve water, continue to make Bloomington more biker and walker friendly and leverage mass transit to support a healthier lifestyle …, and redevelop aging infrastructure and housing in a way that lowers the ecological footprint.” 

If you believe that “restraining” the growth in Bloomington of property taxes and franchise fees is equally as important and needs to be considered in the “Forward 2040” planning process, please consider attending this meeting and providing your input.
