The effort continues to overturn the original certification of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to represent Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) and to seek a new vote on unionization. An earlier court decision to dismiss a PCA Election Petition has been appealed to the Appeals Court, which will hear the case on Thursday, December 13. The hearing will take place at the Appellate Court building in St Paul at 10:00 am sharp.
Please attend to hear the argument, because the silent presence of PCAs, Agency Leaders, and supports will help the Judges understand what is at stake.
Please be there by 9:30 am please. Be there early because the courtroom is small and parking is not easy. Know that SEIU supporters will try to pack the courtroom.
The Appellate Court building is to the right as you face the front of the Minnesota Capitol Building. In case the courtroom is changed at the last minute, the case is referred to as: Certain Employees of the State of Minnesota, Minnesota Management and Budget v. SEIU Healthcare Minnesota, Minnesota Management and Budget, and Bureau of Mediation Services.
The parking ramp across the street is almost all "employee only," so the metered spots on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd and Cedar Street are the best, or park in Ramp F (Rice Street and Fuller Avenue) near the DOT Building and State Office Building (to your left of the Capitol).
There is also the Sears lot (again, Rice Street and Fuller Avenue), which allows non-customer parking (it's to your left of the DOT Building and State Office Building). There is also a ramp behind the Capitol (past the Senate Office Building) at Bethesda/Fairview Hospital (on Park Street).
